Bible Scripture Quotes Banner John Chapter 17 Verse 3 With Reflection (Jn 17:3)
In the Bible the meaning of the word 'to know' is not just a knowledge of a few things but is to have a intimate relationship with a person. It is mentioned in Genesis 4:1 'Now the man knew his wife Eve and she conceived....' Therefore to attain eternal life one needs to have a personal relationship with not only God the Father but also his son Jesus Christ.
In John chapter 14:7-9 when the apostle Philip said 'Lord show us the Father and we will be satisfied' Jesus replied 'Whoever has seen me has seen the Father'. Here the word 'seen' has to be interpreted as 'to know'. God the Father and Jesus Christ have the same nature. Knowing one is as good as knowing the other.
However John 17:3 gives the deeper meaning of the word 'to know' that is required to attain eternal life.
Satan and all the evil spirits have literally seen and know the Father and Jesus Christ but they chose not to have a personal relationship with God and therefore are condemned eternally.
